Professor Saifur Rahman is the founding director of the Advanced Research Institute (www.ari.vt.edu) at Virginia Tech, USA where he is the Joseph R. Loring professor of electrical and computer engineering. He also directs the Center for Energy and the Global Environment (www.ceage.vt.edu).  He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE and an IEEE Millennium Medal winner.  He was the president of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) for 2018 and 2019. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the IEEE Electrification Magazine and the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy. He has published over 140 journal papers and has made over four hundred conference and invited presentations.  In 2006 he served on the IEEE Board of Directors as the vice president for publications. He is a distinguished lecturer for the IEEE Power & Energy Society and has lectured on renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart grid, energy internet, blockchain, IoT sensor integration, etc. in over 30 countries.  He is the founder of BEM Controls, LLC, a Virginia (USA)-based software company providing building energy management

Dr. Apostolov received his MS Degree in Electrical Engineering, MS degree in Applied Mathematics and Ph.D. from the Technical University in Sofia, Bulgaria. He has over 40+ experience in power systems protection, automation, control and communications. 

He is presently Principal Engineer for OMICRON electronics in Los Angeles, CA. He is IEEE Fellow and Member of the Power Systems Relaying and Control Committee. He is past Chairman of the Relay Communications Subcommittee, serves on many IEEE PES Working Groups and is Chairman of Working Groups C2 'Role of Protective Relaying in Smart Grid'.

HE is a member if IEC TC57 working groups 10, 17, 18 and 19 and Convenor of CIGRE WG B5.53 'Test Strategy for Protection, Automation and Control (PAC) functions in a full digital substation based on IEC 61850 applications' and member of several other CIGRE B5 working groups. He is a Distinguished Member of CIGRE.

Dr. Eman Hammad is an interdisciplinary researcher focusing on the cybersecurity, trustworthiness and resilience of emerging technologies & critical infrastructure systems. Eman obtained her PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto. Eman combines practical experience and theoretical research to shape her vision for resilient-by-design solutions in the connected world. Eman's primary focus is on how a deeper understanding of interactions between critical physical systems, communication and enabling technologies can help design new classes of operational solutions that are more resilient to cyber/physical disruptions. Her research has been recognized with merit awards (best paper award, best poster award) and has been featured on the Smart Cybersecurity Network.

Eman is a senior IEEE member who has been an active volunteer, and is currently serving as the chair of Toronto ComSoc Chapter, and co-chair of the IEEE 5G Security working group for the International Network Generations Roadmap (INGR). She delivered several invited talks in academic and industrial conferences, chaired and co-chaired several conferences and workshops. Eman is an active advocate for diversity in STEM and Cybersecurity. Her service has been recognized by IEEE chapter achievement and exemplary service awards.

Alexander has over thirty years of experience in protective relay, meter testing and high voltage plant testing.

He received his practical training at Eskom Distribution in Brackenfell before joining OMICRON electronics GmbH in Austria as a Sales and Application Engineer.

Since 1997 he is managing Alectrix, which is the exclusive distributor for OMICRON equipment in South Africa.

Alex has delivered dozens of papers at local and international conferences and symposiums on subjects such as protective relay testing, maintenance and diagnosis of power transformers, current transformers and other substation assets, as well as aspects of power system simulation.

Anas Abdulkhader is currently working as the Regional Application Specialist for instrument transformers. He began working at OMICRON Electronics Middle East in 2017 as Technical Support and Applications Engineer providing support to customers. In addition, he has given formal training via OMICRON Academy courses in OMICRON’s training centers and also at customers’ premises.

Anas graduated in 2013 with a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Toch Institute of Science and Technology in Kerala, India. Prior to joining OMICRON he worked in a leading GIS & transformer manufacturing company as Field Service Engineer.

Andreas Klien received a master’s degree in computer engineering from the Vienna University of Technology. He joined OMICRON electronics, Austria in 2005, first as project manager, later as team lead for IEC 61850 product development. Since 2018, Andreas has been managing the business area Power Utility Communication at OMICRON. His fields of expertise are in cybersecurity for energy systems, substation communication and SCADA. He has published numerous conference papers and holds patents in these fields.

As a member of the WG 10 in TC57 of the IEC, Andreas is participating in the development of the IEC 61850 standard series.

Arulraj graduated as an Electrical and Electronics Engineer at the Saveetha Engineering College-Chennai-India in 2014 and started at GK Power as Relay Service Engineer for MiCOM Numerical protection and control IEDs,later he worked as a Substation Automation System(SAS) Engineer for many projects for ALSTOM and Schneider Electric in India until 2018.

He worked as a verification and validation Engineer for bay level products in ABB Global R&D team from 2018 until 2020 and now he is responsible for IEC 61850 application testing and cybersecurity solutions in OMICRON.

Ayman A. Al-Ghamdi is an Electric Engineer graduated from King Fahad University – Dhahran with over 13 years of experience in Maintenance Business.

Ayman always ensures the efficiency, quality and reliability of Power Grid Network in SOA (South Operating Area). Ayman has the ability to lead different Maintenance operations and activities and support different co-workers to do their work with highest level of efficiency and productivity.

Bogdan Gorgan was born in Buzau, Romania in 1985. He received the Dipl.-Ing. and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from University Politehnica in Bucharest, Romania in 2009 and 2013 respectively. From 2012 to 2016, he was with Simtech International in Bucharest, Romania, where he was mainly involved in HV testing and diagnosis of power transformers. Since 2016, he is with OMICRON Energy Solutions GmbH in Berlin, Germany, where he is a HV Applications Engineer involved in the monitoring and diagnostic services of HV equipment as well as customer trainings.

Burak Tahincioglu received his Electrical and Electronics Engineering degree from Turkey in 2009. He started his Protection, Automation and Control Engineer career in National Transmission System Operator of Turkey (TEIAS) in 2011. He has been involved in the area of protection for 400 and 170 kV Substations in Aegean region. After 2016, his interest area has evolved into IEC 61850 commissioning activities of rapidly growing west coast transmission substations.

In 2019 he joined OMICRON as an Application Engineer in Power Utility Communication team in Klaus. He works now as Product Expert for StationScout, mainly focused on IEC 61850 Automation and Control systems testing.

Christian Brauner received his engineering degree in the field of communication technology. In the last 30 years he was employed by manufacturers of substation automation (SAS), control, protection and SCADA systems for electric utilities. He started his career as a technical sales expert in Austria with VA TECH SAT (now Siemens), later as sales manager with SPRECHER AUTOMATION. He has been involved into a variety if IEC 61850 related projects and frame contracts for large utilities all over Europe.

Since 2018 he is working for OMICRON Vienna as sales development manager. His special focus is on testing and monitoring products and solutions for substation automation systems.

Mostafa Mokhtar Ahmed holds a master degree in Partial Discharge Diagnosis PDD for High Voltage Power Cables and Their Accessories and has 14 Year of experience in High Voltage Power field.

He currently works at Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) as a Transmission Engineer C since June 2014. Prior to that, he worked at the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC) as a Testing Engineer at Pyramid Extra High Voltage Research Center (PEHVRC) Type Test & Routine Test According IEC &IEEE Standard.

Muhammad H. Abbasi obtained his MS Degree in Electrical Engineering from King Saud University (KSU), Riyadh with a specialization in Electrical Power. Since 2016, he has worked as Team Lead heading the Solar PV Distribution Generation training program at Saudi Electric Services Polytechnic (SESP) for contractors and consultants.

He is certified Solar PV Designer and Installer from Saudi Electric Company along with that he is also NABCEP certified PV Associate & PV Inspector. His research interests includes Multimode/Micro grid design, Grid Integration, and Megawatt Scale (MW) PV designing.

Oliver Janke graduated as an Electrical Engineer at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nurnberg in 2008 and started at OMICRON as developer for PTL templates in the same year. Later he worked as a trainer for protection testing with the OMICRON CMC family and for IEC 61850. Since 2014 he is responsible for OMICRON Academy’s training offer as Regional Training manager. Since 2020 he is focusing on this role, trying to establish a safe webinar program and online training offer for OMICRONs customers.

Sabine Wellhöfer received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering at the Technical University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany) in 2015. Until 2018 she has worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Electrical Energy Systems in the field of modelling and simulation of interconnected power systems. Shams Ullah is an Electrical engineer with a range of engineering skills and practical experience obtained internationally. He attained a bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering from Hamdard University Pakistan and an MBA degree in Engineering Management from the Catholic University of Murcia-Spain.

In 2016 joined Saudi Electricity Company-SEC as a protection engineer and presently regional technical support engineer and consultant with SEC central generation business line. He has a record of working on large-scale generation and transmission engineering projects. His current role is writing policy and procedure, protection design review, technical tender evaluation, and assisting SEC networks with problem solving on HV/MV/LV equipment-related problems. He is the author of several publications, mainly within SEC.

Sameh Eldmrdash received his bachelor’s degree in the field of electrical engineering from Egypt then got his master’s degree in the field of protection testing from Germany. In his first 5 years of work experience, he was employed by the power transmission company EETC in Cairo and worked as protection testing and measurement engineer.

Since 2007 he is working for OMICRON Erlangen, Germany as an application engineer in the field of test automation, training and consulting.

His 20 years of experience gave him the required variety of tools needed for driving and supervising the company’s projects especially in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Sofiane Bakkay Regional Application Specialist for Power Transformers and Rotating Machines in OMICRON MEA. Graduated as Electrical Engineer, he started his Career as Testing Engineer at the HV and MV external Insulation Applied Research Unit in TUNISIA. He worked In Carlo Gavazzi in CANADA for 9 years as Application Engineer and Product Specialist In Power Analysing and Energy Management. Before joining OMICRON, he was in the Head of Test and Measurement Division on Power Transformers and Rotating Machine in STEG TUNISA for 10 years.

Stefan Böhler works for OMICRON in Klaus as an application engineer on rotating machines. He studied electrical engineering at Graz Technical University and finished his study in 2003. Before working at OMICRON we worked for a big utility as project manager for all kind of generator related projects for new powerplants, refurbishments and diagnostic measurements. In his role at OMICRON he is doing measurements and giving customer trainings all around the globe.
